Laura Hamilton expresses AI fears after discovering inappropriate images of herself
A Place in the Sun presenter Laura Hamilton has called for greater regulation of AI after discovering that the tech had been used to generate inappropirate pictures of her online.
Laura Hamilton is fearful of AI.
The A Place in the Sun host was horrified to discover that technology had been used to create inappropriate images of her and has questioned why it has taken the Government so long to clamp down on the issue.
In an interview with OK! magazine, Laura said: "It's crazy that it's been allowed to get this way. And only now is something being done about it? There are positives behind AI, but there are a lot of negatives as well. It's just how it's managed.
"I didn't make a point on my social media about being a victim. I know I'm not the only one – there are lots of people out there that it's happened to – but when people are questioning whether it's actually you or whether it is AI, it's like, 'Wow!'
"But it's not just targeting celebrities, it's everybody. It's a danger for children as well. It worries me, the manipulation that people can do with images!"
Laura – who has son Rocco, 12, and daughter Tahlia, 10, with her ex-husband Alex Goward – also has concerns about social media and tries to limit the amount of time her children spend on the platforms.
The 43-year-old presenter said: "Bullying was bad enough at school. But now you still have to deal with those issues and a whole other level, with it being online.
"I try to restrict my two's social media – but it's quite hard when they see me online! I know they've read things about me and they'll say, 'We know this isn't true', and we move on. I guess they're exposed to it in a way maybe some other children haven't been."
Laura co-parents her children with her former spouse and admits that things can be a "challenge" at times.
She said: "It's a challenge, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
"I think it's so important they spend the time they do with their dad and the time they do with me – and that is key to how wonderful they are as children."
The property expert continued: "Anyone who co-parents will understand that all parents have different parenting styles and when you're co-parenting, you're navigating the challenges of the two different styles – and communication between each other can be difficult.
"But ultimately, I'd say my children are brilliant and they love the time that they spend with me and they love the time that they spend with their dad."
