James Ransone's widow is upset over Emmy snub

James Ransone's widow has slammed the Emmy Awards for omitting him from their televised In Memoriam tribute.

The Wire actor took his own life last December at the age of 46 and Jamie 'Skipper' McPhee has hit out at the Television Academy, who organised Monday's (14.09.26) ceremony because he wasn't featured in a segment which honoured those in the TV industry who have passed away over the last year.

Referring to her husband by his nickname, PJ, Jamie wrote on her Instagram Story on Monday (14.09.26) night: “My husband @jamesransone was not acknowledged in memoriam at tonight’s Emmys.

“He was also not at the Oscars earlier this year. PJ was impossible, lovable, intolerable and incredible — depends on who you ask. But without question — he was a great actor."

But she admitted her husband probably wouldn't have been upset by the omission.

She added: “But good news is PJ wouldn’t care. He’d actually think it’s funny.”

However, on Tuesday (15.09.26) afternoon, Jamie shared another post featuring the In Memoriam segment, which saw Noah Kahan perform a version of Bridge Over Troubled Water.

She wrote: “I didn’t watch the Emmys so I only now understand how much of a snub this truly was.

“I am incredibly disappointed @televisionacad. @Jamesransone was an incredibly gifted actor and it simply is not right to not acknowledge him and his work.”

The Television Academy insisted they did not have the time to feature all those who have passed away in the televised tribute, and highlighted James' inclusion in a longer online video.

A spokesperson said in a statement: “Every year, the Emmy Awards presents an In Memoriam video for all three ceremonies. Given only a few minutes to honour those who have passed, there is a limit on how many people can be acknowledged on the broadcasts. The Academy presents a more extensive video, listing the hundreds of names of television colleagues we’ve lost in the past year on their website.”

Following the Generation Kill actor's death last December, Jamie - who had son Jack, seven, and daughter Violet, five, with her spouse - paid a heartfelt tribute on Instagram.

She shared a picture of James with a hand on her baby bump and wrote: "I told you I have loved you 1000 times before and I know I will love you again... You told me - I need to be more like you and you need to be more like me - and you were so right.

"Thank you for giving me the greatest gifts - you, Jack and Violet. We are forever."
