Claudia Winkleman has likened The Traitors winners Stephen Libby and Rachel Duffy to "Bonnie and Clyde".

The BBC's show host picked the duo as Traitors at the start of the series and likened the pair's "alliance "to outsmart the faithful to that of the famous American outlaws.

Speaking on spin-off programme The Traitors: Uncloaked, Claudia said: "I found their end and their love for each other incredibly moving.

"What I loved about Rachel and Stephen, from the very beginning, knowing what you know now, they just looked after each other without being obvious.

"They made that alliance.

"We’ve never seen that before. Lots of people make alliances and they last, you know, an episode or five minutes, but they decided, and not Romeo and Juliet, because that ended badly, but Bonnie and Clyde.

"They were lovers in the turret and they stuck together."

The pair stuck to a pact that they would never write each other's name during the roundtable meetings throughout out the series and worked together to banish remaining faithfuls James Baker, Jade Scott, Faraaz Noor and Jack Butler.

After their win was announced, Claudia said: "Two traitors but totally faithful to each other. You did it. You absolutely did it."

The 54-year-old broadcaster is responsible for picking which contestants will be Traitors at the start of every series and is grateful to receive some help from the producers.

She said ahead of the series launch: "It’s nerve-wracking but I don’t choose them alone. I interview all the players and some are absolute desperate to be faithful.

"Anyone who convinces me otherwise is in contention.

"I then go into a small room with the bosses and an enormous tin of biscuits and we pick."

Claudia admitted she gets pleasure from ramping up the tension when she's tapping the chosen Traitors on the shoulder.

She said: "The walk round the table is very tense.

"I can’t tell you how many times I walk around it but I really try and build the tension which is hideously mean but also quite addictive.

"I try and wear clompy footwear to add to it. It gets a bit flamenco. Alan [Carr] recently said I walk round the table like a carthorse and he’s bang on."
