The Celebrity Traitors inspired Alan Carr to buy Scottish castle
The Celebrity Traitors winner Alan Carr is looking to buy a castle in Scotland to ditch the house he shared with his ex-husband, Paul Drayton.
Alan Carr wants to buy a Scottish castle so he can move out of the house he shared with his ex-husband.
The comedian, 49, divorced Paul Drayton, 54, in 2022 after 13 years of marriage, and Alan wants to reset his personal life by getting a new pad inspired by his The Celebrity Traitors win - which was filmed in Ardross Castle, Scottish Highlands.
Alan - whose house-hunting mission will be documented in a Disney+ series, with the working title, Castle Man - told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "I'm getting myself a castle. I fancied a change.
"I'm selling up and going up there. For real. My money, my decision. I'm still in the house where my ex was. We're divorced now, and it's been four years."
As well as leaving his and Paul's home near Horsham, West Sussex, behind for a new property, Alan is keen to dip his toes back into the dating pool.
The star - whose Disney+ series is a reference to his Chatty Man talk show, which aired on Channel 4 from 2009 until 2017 - continued: "I'm single now, ready to mingle.
"I just need to move. It's so exciting, but I haven't seen [the properties] yet, and I'm going up to Scotland to have a look. They've got me viewing a few."
Alan - who met Paul in 2006, and got engaged during a romantic getaway to Indonesia in 2016 - has always imagined himself living in a castle.
The comic - who married Paul in a ceremony conducted by singer Adele, 37, and took place in her garden in Los Angeles, California, in January 2018 - said: "Some men when they have a midlife crisis buy a Lamborghini or grow a ponytail, but me, I want my very own castle.
"Since I was a boy in Northampton, I've always dreamt big, and have always been enchanted with the history and romance of a stately home.
"As I turn 50, I feel it's my time. All I want is a turret to call my own. Get me over that drawbridge!"
Last year, Alan took part in the first series of The Celebrity Traitors, and he hailed doing the BBC's ultimate game of backstabbing and betrayal - which sees Faithfuls sniff out the deceitfuls - as "the best thing I have ever done".
Alan remained undetected as a Traitor and stole the £87,500 - which he donated to children's charity, Neuroblastoma UK - from Faithfuls, actor Nick Mohammed, 45, and 56-year-old historian David Olusoga in the final.
And since then, more people have recognised Alan in public.
He said: "I felt like Kim Kardashian. I went to America, and a woman shouted at me from a balcony, 'I see you, Traitor!'
"Normally, I go that way, and no one knows who I am. Everyone was suddenly going, 'Oh, Alan's so funny.'
"I'm like, 'Well, I've been around for 25 years. I must have been rubbish.'"
