Mathew Horne and his wife Celina Bassili are expecting their second child together.

The couple - who are already parents to a three-year-old son, whose name has never been publicly shared - are set to welcome their unborn daughter in March, and Mathew said her middle name, Joy, will be a touching tribute to his mum, Glenis Horne, who died in 2019.

Appearing on the recent episode of 77-year-old broadcaster Gyles Brandreth's Rosebud podcast, Mathew, 47, revealed: "Joy was my mother's middle name. And it will be the middle name of my daughter, who is due in March."

Gyles reacted by highlighting the baby's star sign, based on the astrological horoscope.

He said: "Oh, she's going to be a Piscean. You win every prize in life, you know. You've been so lucky."

Gavin and Stacey legend Mathew - the youngest son of Glenis and Brian Horne - replied: "I know that!"

Gyles continued: "Yeah, Joy. That's lovely. So you're going to have a girl? That's what we hope. Good. Oh, wonderful."

He then asked Mathew - who has an older brother called Daniel Horne - for a moment of joy from life, to which the Bad Education star replied: "A moment of joy is last night, falling asleep with my son. That's today's joy."

Elsewhere in the podcast episode, Mathew remembered Glenis - of which he did not share details of her death.

He said: "She sadly passed in 2019, which is a pretty pivotal moment in my life. She was a nursery nurse, and I was very much a mummy's boy. And I miss her dearly.

"She's a fundamental part of my existence."

Mathew added: "It is a privilege to be her son."

The Catherine Tate Show star - who met Celina a year before Glenis died - knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with the set designer because she stood by him when he was grieving.

Mathew - who married his spouse in 2021 in an intimate ceremony in her home country, Norway - said: "It became very clear that she was the one.

"I met her about a year before my mother passed away. And then I lost my mum, and Celina stood by my side throughout what was a really wretched time.

"Our relationship grew and grew, and my love for her grew and grew. And I just knew from that experience that I wanted to be with her forever."

Also in the episode, Mathew opened up about losing a former girlfriend - whom he did not name - to cancer.

He told Gyles: "There was an amazing girl who was a very, very dear friend. It wasn’t like a sort of lustful, passionate union like it was with the school relationship.

"It was quite an interesting one. We were really close friends, and everybody thought that we should be together, and eventually we did."

Speaking about her death, Mathew continued: “She sadly passed away. She was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2003, and then by January 2004, she was gone.

"Very, very sad. We weren’t strictly together at that time [the time she passed…]. We had gone our separate ways for about a year, but, obviously, the connection was still there. It was a very difficult time."

Mathew was previously engaged to actress Evelyn Hoskins, who played Shona Wark in the BBC medical drama, Casualty.
