Mathew Horne teases new project with Catherine Tate
Mathew Horne teased that he and fellow comic Catherine Tate are "concocting something together for next Christmas".
Mathew Horne and Catherine Tate are reuniting to work on a new project.
The comedy duo - who worked with each other on The Catherine Tate Show between 2004 and 2007, as well as The Nan Movie in 2022 - have earmarked their new show for next Christmas.
Speaking during a Live Stage spotlight session at MCM Birmingham Comic Con on Saturday (29.11.25), Mathew, 47, teased: "Working with Catherine was phenomenal … I saw [her] last week. We are concocting something together for next Christmas."
The star did not spill any more details as to what the project is about, and what form it may take.
Elsewhere at the event, Mathew reflected upon working on the beloved BBC comedy series, Gavin and Stacey - a year after the finale episode, which raked in 20.9 million viewers, aired on Christmas Day in 2024.
The star - who played Gavin Shipman, the husband of Stacey Shipman (Joanna Page) - said: "It doesn’t feel like just another part of my career at all - it feels like what has defined not only my career as an actor but also my entire life.
"[It's] beyond my wildest dreams to work on a show like that, it’s given me so much professionally but also personally in my life as well - I feel truly blessed to be part of it."
And Mathew also took the opportunity to express the importance of getting more working-class actors into showbiz.
He said: "I’m from a working-class background and I grew up in a two-up, two-down in Nottinghamshire.
"The opportunity to be an actor just wasn’t on the table … something does need to change, and voices need to be heard, and more opportunities need to be had with working-class people, but that will take a long, long time."
The Nan Movie sees Catherine, 55, reprise the role of the foul-mouthed pensioner, who is based on the popular character - also known as Joanie Taylor - from her eponymous BBC Two sketch comedy show.
Mathew portrays Jamie - the grandson of Nan, who also appeared in The Catherine Tate Show - and it sees him and Nan embark on a road trip as she attempts to repair the fractured relationship with her estranged sister Nell (Katherine Parkinson) after it is revealed that Nell is dying.
And Mathew loved working with Catherine again.
Appearing on ITV's Lorraine in 2022, he said: "It was a real landmark moment making this. I first met Cath 20 years ago.
"It’s a testament to her loyalty, and I’m so privileged to be her friend. It was quite an emotional time."
