Peep Show could return as 'one-off' special
Fans of Peep Show have wondered if the much-loved sitcom could return as some of its cast members are reuniting for the first time since the show ended in 2015 for The Great British Bake Off Christmas special.
Peep Show's writers are "still interested" in bringing back the sitcom for a "one-off" special.
The award-winning Channel 4 comedy series - which followed the lives of dysfunctional best friends, Mark Corrigan (David Mitchell) and Jeremy 'Jez' Usbourne (Robert Webb) - ended in 2015 after 12 years.
Fans have wondered if Peep Show could return as cast members Olivia Colman (Sophie Chapman), David, Isy Suttie (Dobby), Matt King (Super Hans) and Sophie Winkleman (Big Suze) are reuniting for a sitcom Christmas special of Channel 4's The Great British Bake Off.
And Matt, 57, has hope the series - written by Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong - will come back in the future.
He is quoted by The Sun newspaper's TVBiz column as saying: "When it ended in 2015, [writers] Sam and Jesse said to us, ‘We’ll see you in ten years. We’re going to write a one-off.'
"I did ask them six months ago. They said, ‘We still would be interested, but we’re just so busy, we can’t do a ten-year one’. I feel like it will happen."
Isy, 41, also backs the idea of Peep Show returning.
She said: "I’d do it, but we’d almost have to do it in 20 years with Mark and Jez in an old people’s home and us in the flats next door."
However, Sophie, 45, is not sure about it being revived.
She said: "It’s quite nice to preserve it as it is. I don’t know if things like that work."
David, 51, Olivia, 51, Isy, Matt and Sophie will roll up their sleeves as they tackle a series of challenges - hangable biscuits in the Signature, a Boxing Day staple in the Technical, and their Peep Show cake tribute in the Showstopper - on The Great British Bake Off Christmas special.
They will be under the watchful eye of judges Paul Hollywood, 59, and 85 year old Dame Prue Leith - who had "never heard" of Peep Show before filming The Great British Bake Off Christmas special.
Prue - who had to watch the sitcom to understand the references in the Showstopper creations - admitted to Woman's Own magazine: "I had never even heard of Peep Show. Please don't tell them!
"But I watched it, and I loved it."
The Great British Bake Off hosts Noel Fielding, 52, and Alison Hammond, 50, will front the Peep Show special, which airs at 8pm on Christmas Day on Channel 4.
