The Inbetweeners may return in 2026.

The E4 coming-of-age sitcom - which followed friends Jay Cartwright (James Buckley), William McKenzie (Simon Bird), Simon Cooper (Joe Thomas) and Neil Sutherland (Blake Harrison) as they were eager to enter adulthood, whilst they navigated school life at the fictional Rudge Park Comprehensive - had three TV series from 2008 until 2010, and movies in 2011 and 2014.

And the show's creators, Iain Morris, 52, and Damon Beesley, 53, have revealed they have struck a deal with production firm Banijay UK.

Ian and Damon told The Sun newspaper: "It’s incredibly exciting to be plotting more adventures for our four favourite friends (ooh, friends)."

Patrick Holland, Banijay UK's chief executive, is "delighted to pick up the conversation about the future of The Inbetweeners with them".

He added: "They have an infectious creative vision for the brand which will resonate with audiences old and new."

Iain and Damon's deal with Banijay UK could see The Inbetweeners return as a TV series, film, stage show - or all three options.

A spokesperson for the production company said the deal "unlocks the rights and potential to bring The Inbetweeners back for new audiences across a range of platforms, including film, TV and stage".

In August 2024, Joe Thomas, 41, revealed that talks were underway about a reboot of The Inbetweeners, either as a movie or as a TV show.

Asked if there have been any conversations about a comeback, Joe said on the Always Be Comedy podcast at the time: "Yes, it's happened in various forms. All of us feel it would be nice to do."

However, Joe feared that a reboot may not be as good as the original TV series and films.

He said: "Everybody's anxiety would be, 'Will it be as good?'. That is what we would be going in with."

Despite the "anxiety", Joe said he, James, 38, Simon, 41, and Blake, 40, support the idea of rebooting The Inbetweeners.

The actor said: "We're all still around, we're all still in each other's lives. We all still like each other. And if it was something that came up, I think we would want to do it.

"I feel like we all still really like each other."
