James Buckley isn't enjoying the level of scrutiny on the new Inbetweeners film.

The 39-year-old actor is reprising his role as Jay Cartwright in the much-anticipated third movie based on the popular E4 sitcom but isn't keen on the amount of attention on the project – with the cast recently pictured filming in Majorcan party hotspot Magaluf.

Speaking from the set of the film on the latest episode of the At Home With The Buckleys podcast, which he hosts with his wife Clair, James said: "I like doing stuff like this (the podcast) that a few people like but no one really gives a s*** about. I like sort of pottering about doing my bits and bobs.

"Doing The Inbetweeners films, the whole level of paparazzi and people turn up (saying), 'What are they doing? What are they getting up to?'

"And then (there are) lots of people online making videos going, 'I think I know what the story's about', and people speculating. I like it when people don't really take any notice of what I'm up to."

Meanwhile, James also revealed that he and his co-stars Joe Thomas (Simon Cooper), Simon Bird (Will McKenzie) and Blake Harrison (Neil Sutherland) are now finding it harder to clamber in and out of the yellow Fiat driven by Bird's alter ego in the show.

He said: "People's knees are hurting these days and stuff. Blake was complaining about his neck the other day, bless him.

"We're all a lot older and it's become painfully aware of how much time has passed."

Meanwhile, Buckley recently confessed that he couldn't afford a travel card before The Inbetweeners started airing in 2008.

The Rock and Chips star, who recalled working as a kitchen fitter before his acting career took off, said on the podcast: "I was literally like, at some points, I was like, I can't f****** afford a travel card to get to this place.

"I don't have any money. I'm fitting kitchens."

James said the free clothes he received as his profile grew helped at a time when he could not buy clothes himself.

Looking at an old magazine photo of himself with his sitcom co-stars, he said: "I can see the clothes that I'm wearing. All freebies.

"All free stuff because I didn't have enough money to buy clothes."
