Kareena Kapoor says the secret to her on-screen success is that she has taken her "failures" on the chin.
The 42-year-old actress has been one of the most in-demand Hindi stars around since she made her film debut in 2000's 'Refugee' and thanks to hits such as 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan' and '3 Idiots'.
Now, 23 years later, Kareena is making her OTT streaming debut in Netflix original film 'Jaane Jaan', which is based on Keigo Higashino's bestselling 2005 thriller novel 'The Devotion of Suspect X' and is directed by Sujoy Ghosh.
Kareena insists she has never followed a "blueprint" for her career and "never taken my stardom seriously" which is why she is still at the top of her profession as she enters her third decade in the business.
In an interview with City Times, she said: "There was no blueprint formula to it. I have always been myself and done exactly what I wanted to and thought would work. Sometimes they work out, sometimes they don't. The only key is that I have always taken my success and failures on my chin and never taken my stardom seriously.
"If I want to do something, I must do it now. So whether it was getting married to an actor, or having two children and still following my dreams is something that I've always believed that every woman has the possibility to do and should do."
Kareena - who is married to actor Saif Ali Khan, with whom she has two sons, Taimur and Jeh - is very excited to have worked on her first Netflix exclusive and she has nothing but praise for the platform for what it is doing in Hindi filmmaking and for entertainment across the globe.
She said: "I truly believe it is an honest platform which is so committed to making good content globally.
"The medium, or where you watch it, doesn't really matter. Big-ticket films release in cinemas, but a month later, they're out on OTT platforms as well. So I believe the idea is for people to watch the story and appreciate the performance (if they like it)."
'The Buckingham Murders' star - whose parents are Bollywood icons Randhir Kapoor and Babita - has several exciting projects in the pipeline and she is at a moment in her career where she wants to take on as many different roles as she can.
She said: "I am at this stage of my life where stories are important, so is my passion for acting. I am trying to balance it out with releases, but the main idea is to keep doing different things."
