Marlon Wayans has opened up about the return of the Scary Movie franchise with the sixth movie, insisting that “people just want to feel good again”.

The movie maker wrote the script for the upcoming comedy horror with brothers Shawn Wayans and Keenen Ivory Wayans, and said he’s hoping it helps unite viewers in what is a difficult time in the world.

He told Empire: “People want to feel good again. It’s been a long time since we felt good, and laughter is bonding, and when was the last time we all came together as a country, as a world, to just sit down and laugh at each other and with each other?”

Both Marlon and Shawn will star in the film, alongside Anna Faris, Regina Hall and Dave Sheridan,

It’s due for release this June, and Marlon promised it contains more boundary-free jokes than ever before.

He added: “It’s okay if the audience goes (wincing sound), ‘Ooooooh!’ If they go, ‘Oooooh!’, you don’t turn away from that.

“You go, ‘Okay they’re listening. Now let me keep digging until I find the laughter.’ There’s no fear in comedy. You can’t be timid.”

It’s expected that the film will parody the new Conjuring movies, as well the revival of Scream.

However, when it comes to the horror genre, Marlon is surprisingly slightly squeamish.

He laughed: “I don’t have the strongest stomach for horror. When it gets too dark, it makes the hair on my arms stand up and I’m just like, ‘Yo, this is creepy, man!’”

The first Scary Movie was released back in 2000, with sequels following in 2001, 2003 and 2006.

There was then a break, before Scary Movie 5 dropped in 2013.

Movie fans were left thrilled when the first trailer for the upcoming sixth instalment was released in March, as they spotted infamous horror characters including Scream’s Ghostface, M3GAN, Leatherface and Jason Voorhees from Friday the 13th.

The film will also poke fun at Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday from the hugely successful Netflix series about The Addams Family antiheroine, with a character called Tuesday.
