Marlon Wayans believes now is the perfect time for another Scary Movie.

The 53-year-old actor has enjoyed huge success with the Scary Movie franchise, which launched in 2000, and Marlon thinks now is the ideal time to release Scary Movie 6.

The Hollywood star - who co-wrote the new film alongside Shawn Wayans, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Craig Wayans, and Rick Alvarez - told Variety: "This is coming at a time where the world needs a laugh. And look, we’re not here to save the world. We’re here to remind people what it’s like to laugh and feel good.

"We’re all too in our phones. There’s nothing more infectious than sitting and laughing in a theatre with a bunch of people with different age ranges and backgrounds. We want you to go be 15 again. Post-COVID, we need this."

The Wayans brothers have enjoyed huge success in the movie business, and Marlon claims that his mother, Elvira, is responsible for their wit.

He said: "One of the funniest people that ever walked this earth was Elvira Wayans. She was brilliant.

"Her point of view of the poverty we were in, of religion, of my father — everything was a joke to my mother, and she was fearless.

"I think we inherited that comedic genius that my mother had. Instead of being a part of all the negative things that were happening in our neighbourhood — from drugs and drug dealing to gang violence and prostitution — we chose to make fun of it."

And despite his past successes, Marlon remains as enthusiastic about his comedy career as he ever has been.

The movie star believes his "best years" are actually still ahead of him.

He shared: "It doesn’t feel overwhelming to me.

"I feel like, ‘Oh, this is the s*** I’ve asked for.’ I’ve got the most energy I’ve ever had, and I’m looking forward to the next 20 years being my best years."

Earlier this year, Marlon explained that he's on a mission to "bring back laughter" with Scary Movie 6.

The actor made clear that the new film is about restoring comedy to its former glory.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Marlon said: "What we're trying to do is bring back laughter. This is about bringing back comedy the way it used to be. And I think the only way to do it is you have to cancel the cancel culture."

Marlon described the film as not just a reboot, but a "rebooquel", picking up 26 years after the original Scary Movie.

The comedy star explained: "This movie is multi-generational. It's a conversation comedically that is needed, that needs to be had from our generation down to Gen Alpha. And it's all inclusive."
