Jacob Elordi's mother warned him to "never work" with Guillermo del Toro.

The 28-year-old actor has admitted his mother Melissa urged him as a child to not team up with the iconic filmmaker after she saw the DVD cover for Pan's Labyrinth.

Elordi - who ended up starring in del Toro's Frankenstein film last year - was speaking at a BFI IMAX screening of the movie has recalled raiding "the horror aisle" at Blockbuster aged 10.

He added: "And I saw the tree and the little girl, and I turned it around, the DVD case, and I saw the Pale Man. And I remember thinking, what is that?’”

Despite the M for mature rating in Australia, Elordi's mother agreed to rent the DVD if he agreed to one condition.

She told him at the time: "You must never work with this man."

Recounting the exchange, the actor laughed: "And lo and behold."

Del Toro quipped: "It's good to disobey one's mother."

Elordi took on the role of the iconic horror monster in del Toro’s interpretation of Mary Shelley's classic 1818 novel.

The director previously revealed how the actor worked with "42 pieces of makeup [and] prosthetics" to get into character.

The 60-year-old filmmaker told E! News: "He took around 10 hours every day and about 42 pieces of makeup, prosthetics. And then he would have to work.”

And del Toro was impressed by how the star embraced the intense transformation

He added: “He did it all with grace and patience and love.

"I told him, 'Look, it's like when a priest is getting dressed, there are many layers to the robes and the ceremonial guard. You have to think, this is your Ceremonial Guard. You're invoking the Creature.'

"And the result is heartbreaking and beautiful. It’s a really naked performance - emotionally so close to innocence that it breaks your heart."

Oscar Isaac, who stars as scientist Victor Frankenstein in the Netflix hit, admitted he was equally as impressed by how "effortless" his co-star was.

The 46-year-old actor said: "He's so put together.

"He was so effortless. He never complained. He was in 10 hours of makeup every day.

"The fact that he would just show up and was so beautiful and vulnerable and vulnerable and open, I was so impressed with him.”
