Jaden Smith: Fashion is the home for wild creative expression
Jaden Smith has opened up about his experience of working for Christian Louboutin.
Jaden Smith sees fashion as the "home for wild creative expression".
The 27-year-old star - who is the son of Jada Pinkett-Smith and Will Smith - was appointed Creative Director of Christian Louboutin in September 2025, and Jaden is relishing the challenge of working with the iconic brand.
The actor - who is the brand's first male creative director - told GQ magazine: "Fashion feels like the home for wild creative expression, like intense, passionate, creative expression. And I think that I embody that with a lot of different things throughout my life.
"It just happened. Kind of like falling in love with somebody, like, ‘How’d you meet your wife?’ I don’t know. I feel like it was meant to be."
Jaden is responsible for shaping four collections annually across Christian Louboutin men's shoes, leather goods, and accessories. And Jaden has now revealed some of his big-name fashion inspirations.
He shared: "I’ve always been inspired by people like Christian [Louboutin] ... Nicolas Ghesquiere, Alexander McQueen, Raf Simons, Vivienne Westwood."
Christian has also been wowed by Jaden's vision since he joined the company.
The 62-year-old fashion designer said: "He [is the] perfect person. When we were meeting, he is talking, asking me questions. He’s someone who is engaged, who is in the conversation.
"He loves photography. He loves fashion. He’s a great iconic character."
Christian and Jaden have worked closely together to build his first collection.
The designer explained: "There is one thing that you cannot know unless you’ve been doing it, and that’s building a collection. We are there to kind of teach him what a collection is. Creation is one thing, but after that you have distribution, which is very important."
Christian is aware that Jaden's collection will face more scrutiny than usual. However, the acclaimed designer isn't interested in external chatter and is instead enjoying the experience of working with the Hollywood star.
Christian - who initially worked as a freelance designer for fashion houses, before launching his own brand - said: "Noise was expected, and he’s used to that, you know, for [better] or worse … There will always be critics. Who cares?
"There is a French expression: ‘Dogs are barking, the caravan goes on.’"
