The costume designer behind The Devil Wears Prada 2 has lifted the lid on the fashion in the stylish new movie.

The new movie - starring Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt - is a sequel to 2006's The Devil Wears Prada and returns to fictional fashion magazine Runway as Anne's character Andy Sachs takes on a new job there two decades after her previous stint as an assistant to feared editor Miranda Priestly (played by Streep). The Devil Wears Prada 2 focuses on fashion and costume designer Molly Rogers has now explained some of the key looks including the Coach messenger bag Andy is seen carrying.

Molly told Backstage.com: "Annie and I had many conversations in the beginning, when we had time to debate, think, and meditate. One of her prerequisites, or requirements for Andrea Sachs, is that Andrea has traveled a lot in her profession as a reporter.

"So, you know, the eye has traveled. You pick things up as you go along in the world. She really wanted that reflected in her wardrobe, where vintage was going to be important. "

She added of the black bag seen being carried by Andy: "I thought that Annie’s Coach messenger bag was really important for a reporter to have.

"Props brought us, like, three or four to choose from, and the great thing about the one we chose, when she put it on her shoulder, it looked like she owned it. It was no longer a prop."

Molly also resurrected the cerulean sweater which had a major moment in the first film revealing Anne Hathaway modified the item herself to update it for The Devil Wears Prada 2.

She told WWD: "I wanted to do something, I wanted to shred it like Margiela. Annie grabbed its cousin, because that’s the real one.

"She grabbed it in a fitting and she chopped the sleeves off - we all screamed. But it was good because we were kind of doing her menswear-inspired, so it was great that it ended up a vest."

Molly added of the newly-modified cerulean sweater's big moment in the second film: "There were like three scenes I thought it would be appropriate in, and the more I read the script the more I knew she needed to end up at the end in it."
