The late actor collaborated with Kubrick on the films 'Paths of Glory' and 'Spartacus' and the pair often clashed - even violently when Kubrick attempted to change the ending scene of the latter.

However, the star did have a deep appreciation for the director.

Douglas told Variety in 2016: "Difficult? Kubrick invented the word... But he was talented. So, we had lots of fights, but I always appreciated his talent."
