Widley considered the greatest ever rock bassist, he used a Fender Jazz Bass with stock tapewound strings to get that electrifying sound.

With guitarist Pete Townshend, the pair used the shout-and-fall modal frame that's popular in rock 'n' roll music and also used by The Beatles.
