Princess Diana and Sir Elton John

One of Princess Diana’s closest friends was the British singer, Sir Elton John, whom she met in 1981 during Queen Elizabeth’s son Prince Andrew’s 21st birthday party. In his autobiography ‘Me’, the ‘Rocket Man’ singer recalled his first meeting with the princess. He wrote: “That night in 1981, she arrived in the ballroom and we immediately clicked. We ended up pretending to dance the Charleston while hooting at the disco’s feebleness.” Elton also performed a unique version of ‘Candle in the Wind’ at Princess Diana’s funeral.
