The Executive Omission: Will Ferrell and Adam McKay
They were comedy's greatest creative partnership, co-founding Gary Sanchez Productions and writing generation-defining hits like Anchorman and Step Brothers. They were real-life best friends for over 20 years. However, the inner circle collapsed overnight when McKay secretly recast the lead role of Jerry Buss in a highly anticipated Lakers TV series with John C. Reilly behind Ferrell's back. McKay later admitted to Vanity Fair in November 2021 that his sneaky, backstabbing behaviour permanently murdered the friendship.
He said: "I should have called him... and I didn't. And Ferrell was like, 'You're a bum...' I'm fed up on how I handled that... It’s tragic. I’m like, 'How did this happen?' They're less than ideal choices."
Will Ferrell has refused to speak to him ever since.
