The Maggie May artist was so nervous before playing his first gig in the US back in 1968 that he hid behind a speaker during the opening song.

He later recalled how and his Faces bandmates necked back the booze to overcome their nerves.

The star recalled: "Basically we were a band with no confidence, that's why we turned to the alcohol. It was the booze that made us do it."
