Recognising the genius of their multigenre, boundary-pushing sound, Davis threw his immense corporate weight behind Sly and the Family Stone at Columbia Records.
Under his executive guidance, the funk legends overcame industry resistance to release some of the most influential, socially conscious soul records of the era, including Everyday People, Thank You, and Dance to the Music, though Davis watched sadly as the band later spiralled due to addiction issues and personal conflicts.
