Singing live
Given that both Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo are talented performers and wanted Wicked's musical numbers to feel as authentic as possible, the pair insisted on singing their songs live on set rather than pre-recording them later.
Grande explained: “It was an immediate no-brainer for Cynthia and I. We both were like, ‘Well of course we're singing live.’”
In order to capture the right tone and pitch of Glinda’s voice, Grande had “worked hard” with a vocal coach to change her natural singing and talking pitch for the character.
She said: “It was really important to erase as much of myself as possible, so that they could just be looking at Glinda.”
