‘A stupid mistake’

David Beckham made his debut for the England national team at the UEFA Euro in 1996. However, the 1998 World Cup marked a major turning point in his career.

During a quarter-final match against Argentina, he was sent off, and England went on to lose the game.

Looking back on the incident, he admitted: “I wish there was a pill you could take which could erase certain memories. I made a stupid mistake. It changed my life.”
