A year prior, there had been a devastating oil spill near to Santa Barbara, California, plus the Cuyahoga River in Ohio caught fire and saw chemical waste alright from a train.
The incidents led to the introduction of The National Environmental Policy Act.
The song was penned on a trip to Hawaii.
She sings in reference to Foster Botanical Garden in downtown Honolulu: "They took all the trees, and put 'em in a tree museum / And charged the people a dollar and a half just to see 'em."
