Russell Crowe's ad-libs
While he was happy to sign on to the picture, Russell Crowe was not happy with the script.
He pulled co-writer William Nicholson aside and told him: “Your lines are garbage but I’m the greatest actor in the world, and I can make even garbage sound good.”
Crowe was shocked to find that only 32 pages of the script were completed by the times cameras began rolling, and so was forced to improvise a lot.
One of these ad-libbed lines is perhaps the best in the whole movie: “And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next.”
