Rejected sequel

Although the film is finally getting a sequel later in 2024, there had been another instalment pitched soon after the flick’s release.

Nick Cave was asked by Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe to pen the script for the follow-up movie, and the musician certainly had some rather bold ideas.

In Nick’s version, Maximus - who died at the end of the first film - was reincarnated by Roman Gods, and managed to travel through time to end up fighting in World War II and the Vietnam War, before ultimately becoming a general at the US Pentagon in the modern day.

It won’t come as a surprise to hear the studio were quick to reject the pitch!
