While 20th Century Studios knew they had a good movie on their hands, the company had no idea how well the flick would do in theatres.

On a budget of between $30-37 million, 'Speed' earned $350.4 million at the box office, making it the fifth highest-grossing picture of 1994.

The flick was also honoured at the Academy Awards, winning two Oscars for Best Sound Effects Editing and Best Sound.
