Charlie Wilson's War

In 2007, Roberts returned to the big screen with Tom Hanks and Philip Seymour Hoffman in the critically-acclaimed biographical comedy 'Charlie Wilson's War'. The actress played socialite Joanne Herring, the love interest of Democratic Texas Congressman Charles Wilson, and it was thanks to the cast and Aaron Sorkin's script that Roberts couldn't reject the role.

She said: "When I read it, I was blown away. It's tricky material, but I love the tone of it. It's so Mike Nichols. I said, 'I will do this movie if for no other reason than to be with my beloved Mike and Tom Hanks.'"
