Improvising lines

Knowing Will Smith and Martin Lawrence were comedic geniuses, Michael Bay encouraged the actors to improvise their dialogue as much as possible.

At one point, the filmmaker told the Mike Lowrey actor to insult his co-star, something Will was happy to agree to.

During the scene where Mike taunts Marcus Burnett for his slow driving, Will labelled his partner a "b****" and gay, neither of which did Martin appreciate.
