Strangely, ‘Mad Max’ was a huge success globally, but not in America.
The movie grossed around $92 worldwide, while it bombed at the US box office, ending its theatrical run with a measly $8 million.
Some have theorised that its disappointing performance in the U.S. was due to the fact all of the actors - who were Australian - were overdubbed with American accents, which proved to be jarring for audiences.
It wasn’t until 2001 - 22 years later - that the flick released in America featuring the casts’ actual voices.
