David received an OBE from the Queen
In November 2003, the England soccer captain returned to the UK to be honoured with an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) for services to football on the recommendation of then prime minister Tony Blair.
At the time, David said: "Amazing, it’s great to receive an honour for playing football, for something I love doing."
When asked what the late Queen said to him, he said: “She said it's a great honor for her to be giving me the award. She asked me about traveling back and forward playing football and I said it's not a problem. I said it's a great honour to be here with Her Majesty."
