Casting Marsellus Wallace

One of the most difficult scenes to watch in ‘Pulp Fiction’ is Marcellus Wallace being violated in the basement of Maynard's pawnshop by cop Zed.

The scene proved to be too much for actor Max Julien.

Initially, the actor was offered the part of the crime boss, though opted to turn it down upon learning about the assault sequence.

Max’s rejection allowed Ving Rhames to swoop in and take the role, earning numerous plaudits.
