Judd Apatow rewrote the script

College roommates and ‘Saturday Night Live’ alumni Adam Sandler and Tim Herlihy wrote the project after the success of their first film ‘Billy Madison’. They came up with the idea of a “hockey player who smacks a 400-foot drive”. Judd Apatow later joined the project to rewrite the script but was uncredited.
