Improvised lines

“Leave the gun. Take the cannoli” is one of the most iconic lines to come out of the film, but the phrase wasn’t in the original script.

While “leave the gun” did appear in the screenplay, Richard S. Castellano - who played Peter Clemenza - improvised the final line once Coppola added in a scene where the character's wife asked him to buy some of the Italian pastries.
