Margot Kidder’s role winning clumsiness

Immediately falling over in front of the director wouldn’t be the best way to start an audition, but that is exactly what impressed Richard Donner when it came to Margot Kidder!

Just as she met the filmmaker the actress tripped over the door frame, which essentially won Margot the role of reporter Lois Lane.

Richard later said: “When I met her in the casting office, she tripped coming in and I just fell in love with her. It was perfect, this clumsy [behavior]. She was one of the few [actresses] we flew to London to test with Chris. Anne Archer [also tested]. But they were magic together.”

Donner also insisted that Margot didn’t wear her contact lenses on one day of shooting to make her even clumsier!
