Nolan's science-fiction thriller ‘Tenet’ was released in 2020, following the story of a former CIA agent who, after being recruited by a secret organization, starts investigating the origins of mysterious objects that travel in time and their potential connection to an attack from the future to the present.

In an interview with Complex, John David Washington - who plays the CIA agent known as the "Protagonist" - said: “I remember the first conversation I had with him, but it was not about this film. What I found in that two-and-a-half-hour exchange was just a man that loved film, a man that was really cool, funny, and ‘regular’. […] I call him a hero because of his films, and what they meant to me, but also how he seems to navigate in the industry.”
