‘Shine’, directed by Scott Hicks, follows the real story of concert pianist David Helfgott, who had a turbulent life initially marked by abuse at the hands of his strict father, eventually resulting in him having multiple severe mental breakdowns which resulted in a schizophrenia diagnosis, resulting in him spending years in mental institutions.
Geoffrey Rush played Helfgott as a grown man and his phenomenal portrayal resulted in him taking home the Best Actor prize from the 69th Academy Awards.
