Failed spin-offs
Scott Valentine's Nick Moore proved so popular that NBC tried to give him a spin-off show three times!
Three separate pilot episodes were created, all of which failed to impress audiences.
The first show was called 'Taking It Home', where Nick moves to Detroit to live with his grandfather, played by Herschel Bernardi. Sadly, Herschel passed away in 1986, meaning the project had to be cancelled.
Then, the second show came along, and saw the character working at a day care centre for juvenile delinquents, which was dubbed "not as funny" as 'Family Ties'.
Finally, 'The Art of Being Nick' was pitched, which would have seen Nick live with his sister - played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus - in New York. However, by the time the network decided the program would be worthwhile, Scott declined the offer to make it after deciding he didn't want to play the character for the rest of his life.
