Catchphrase ad-libbing

Sam Beckett’s “oh boy” is about as iconic as the show itself, but the catchphrase was never actually written in the script.

Scott Bakula, who played Sam, uttered the phrase at the end of the first episode, and producers loved it so much, they decided it should become a mainstay of the programme.

Since then, the hero’s “oh boy” has ended every single episode.
