Robert Downey Jr. famously took on the role for the 2008 movie, and proved to be so popular, that he spawned an entire expanded cinematic universe that has become one of Hollywood’s biggest money-makers.

Though the character passed away after defeating the sadistic titan Thanos in ‘Avengers: Endgame’, Iron Man remains as beloved as ever, with the 58-year-old actor recently emphasising that he believed portraying the hero was the “best work I’ll ever do”.
