A star is born

Glynis Johns was born on October 5, 1923 into an acting family. By the time she was six years old, she had trained at the London Ballet School and was hailed in Britain as a dancing prodigy before becoming an instructor at the age of 10.

She later said: "I was a child prodigy dancer - very talented. I loved dancing."
