The movie added a new layer, and identity to the character, portraying him as Judas Iscariot, the disciple who betrayed Jesus for a bribe of thirty pieces of silver.

Judas tried to hang himself in shame after Jesus is crucified, but the rope snapped, and God instead cursed him to live forever as a vampire.
