Emma Corrin’s luggage went missing on the way to Italy for the Venice Film Festival.
The Crown star - who is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns - told Vogue that the entire suitcase somehow got lost en route to the Italian city.
Asked what they were going to wear to a prestigious dinner celebrating the launch of the Cartier Cinema Club, they replied: “The latest on my look is that I don’t know what I’m wearing because my luggage got lost.
“It was like a weird dystopian film – a whole plane’s worth of people were watching an empty baggage carousel going round until someone realised none of it was coming.”
Emma’s stylist Harry Lambert was tasked with finding an alternative to the Prada trousers they had intended on wearing, but the actor was determined not to let it stress them out.
They said: “You’ve got to surrender to it. When one door closes, another one opens. What I wear tonight might be extraordinary in a way that it wasn’t going to be before.”
Emma - who describes their style as “comfortable, grungy and playful” - ended up wearing a barely-there Tom Ford black slip dress for the occasion.
The luggage mishap comes after Emma spoke about how they had “no choice” but to return to Instagram after stepping away from the platform for a year when their decision to come out as queer sparked negativity online.
They told Variety: "It’s actually kind of amazing how I’ve broken the habit [of using Instagram]. I don’t have anything in my brain that’s like: 'I wonder what’s happening on Instagram?' ... "It was work [that made me return] I was kind of given no choice in the world we live in today. But I was like: 'You know what? It’s not a hill worth dying on. Make the best of it.'
"It’s really nice knowing that like, I’m a nonbinary person on Instagram and even if it’s just helping one person to see that, that’s worth it."
Emma's initial post featured a picture of them dressed in a Miu Miu wedding dress with the caption: "Ur fave queer bride". They added of the decision to share something so private on such a public forum: "It was a scary thing in retrospect, but I didn’t put much thought into sharing it.
"I was feeling so euphoric about having figured something out about myself that felt so big, and I wanted to celebrate it and share it with other people who might feel the same."
