Karen Gillan is prioritising parenthood over her career
Actress Karen Gillan has declared she's prioritising parenthood over her career because she wants to be "as present" as possible for her young daughter Clementine.
Karen Gillan is prioritising parenthood over her career because she wants to be "present" for her daughter.
The 38-year-old actress and her comedian husband Nick Kocher welcomed a little girl named Clementine in 2024 and Karen has now revealed she's making changes to her work to make sure she can spend as much time as possible with the toddler.
She told The Telegraph newspaper: "My biggest hope is to be as present as I can for Clementine and to set her up well for life. I want to give my career everything I can, but without sacrificing being there for her. That balance is my focus now.
"The fear, I suppose, is not getting that balance right, but I’m making it a priority."
Karen has been busy filming her third Jumanji movie - Jumanji: Open World - which is due for release later this year and she brought Clementine with her to the set.
The actress revealed she loved seeing her co-star Dwayne Johnson interact with the youngster during filming breaks.
She told the publication: "This time I also got to bring Clementine with me, which made it extra special. There were moments when I felt like I was somehow managing both motherhood and my career at the same time, which doesn’t always happen.
"Watching Dwayne try to make her laugh was probably my favourite. Actors around a baby are the ultimate entertainers. If you can get a baby to laugh, you’ve won. The guys all dote on her."
Karen previously admitted becoming a first-time mother has been "the most incredible experience".
She told The Hollywood Reporter: "I had a baby [about] five months ago. It’s the most incredible experience I’ve ever had. It’s been a bit of a blur for the last few months."
Karen went on to reveal she wrote a pilot episode for a TV show in a "complete postpartum haze" because she enjoyed being creative by writing whenever her baby was sleeping - and she hopes the project will eventually make it to screen.
She explained: "Somehow, I don’t remember doing this, but I’ve written a pilot. OK, this is a complete postpartum haze of a pilot. "It’s like when the baby was sleeping on me, I was like, I’m just going to start writing and I don’t even know if I show this to anyone.
"It sort of allowed me to really just word vomit and free write without the self-judgment of it all. I don’t even know if this will go anywhere, and it’s OK actually. I think I’m going to get it to a good spot.
"That’s sort of what I do to feel like I’m still being creative. It’s an outlet. It is fun for me, but there’s an end goal to it, which is hopefully I will make it at some point."
