Nicole Richie celebrates friend hilary Duff
Nicole Richie has written an article for Time magazine celebrating the talents of Hilary Duff, who previously dated her husband Joel Madden.
Nicole Richie thinks Hilary Duff has always felt like a friend to her generation.
The 44-year-old star - who is married to Hilary's former boyfriend Joel Madden - can understand why people were so happy when the Younger star released new music this year because they grew up with her on TV and she reminds them of an era that was "safe and full of possibility".
In a piece for Time magazine to celebrate Hilary's inclusion in their 100 Most Influential People of 2026, Nicole wrote: "Hilary Duff has been my friend for about seven years, but in the minds of millennials everywhere, she’s been our friend for most of our lives.
"Terri didn’t just go to music school in Raise Your Voice, I did too. When her dad finally accepted her gift and her dream, I was happy for both of us.
"So I would like to speak for all of us by saying we experienced one big, collective surge of serotonin when she released new music. Hilary exists in that rare space of both nostalgia and now. She reminds us of a time that felt safe and full of possibility. But she also grew up, unapologetically. She built a family, a career, and an overall rhythm that is expansive and authentic."
Nicole went on to praise Hilary for the seemingly-effortless way she manages to juggle her career and home life while still finding time and space for her friends.
She added: "She is the girl we danced with in our bedrooms then and the woman we all want to have dinner with now. Grounded, glowing, and fully herself. Somehow mothering four children, leading a massive pop resurgence, and still making time for a fun night with her girlfriends for a glass of wine (or seven).
"I’m letting the rain fall down, and my hair down, and feeling Mature through it all."
Hilary, 38, previously revealed she has a great relationship wih Joel - who she dated from 2004 to 2006 - and Nicole and she and husband Matthew Koma hang out with them "all the time".
Appearing on Watch What Happens Live, she said: "I have a good relationship with their whole family. We actually hang out all the time.
"I was just in [Nicole's] driveway, honking for her to come drink wine with us the other day. She wouldn't, she was asleep by eight.
"But now we get them to hike together all the time. And you know what? It’s lovely.”
Hilary - who has Luca, 14, with ex-husband Mike Comrie and Banks, seven, Mae, five, and 23-month-old Townes with Matthew - also revealed that her husband likes to poke fun at her and Joel's past romance.
She said: "My husband is a giant troll, it’s one of the best things about him. Right when they moved in, for some reason Matt photoshopped a picture of Joel and [brother Benji Madden] in a photo with me on Valentine’s Day with like, ‘Happy Valentine’s Day, honey.'”
