Sacha Baron Cohen cornered Josh Gad in a bathroom to get him to record a message as Olaf the snowman for his children.

The Borat actor proved difficult to please, making Frozen star Josh get into character six times before Sacha was finally satisfied with the result for his daughters Olive, 18, Elula, 16, and son Montgomery, 11, whom he has with his 50-year-old ex-wife, actress Isla Fisher.

Josh immediately recalled the "pretty funny" encounter with the comedian when People asked him, and his Frozen co-stars, 46-year-old Kristen Bell (Anna) and 55-year-old Idina Menzel (Elsa) about their most memorable fan moments.

He said: "I was at a party. It was shortly after we did the first Frozen. It was like an Oscar party. And this large man pushes me into a bathroom."

Adding he realised it was Sacha, Josh continued: "And he goes, 'Listen, mate, I need you to do a voice message for my kids as Olaf.'

"And so I did it, and I said, 'I am Olaf.' He goes, 'No, no. Do it again.' He had me do it like six times because he didn’t like the quality of the first five."

The entertainer explained that he refuses to record video messages because he does not want children to discover that Olaf is an animated character.

Josh made his debut as Olaf in 2013, and then reprised the character in the 2019 sequel to the Disney film and its subsequent shorts and specials, including 2015's Frozen Fever and 2020's Once Upon a Snowman.

And his and 51-year-old wife, actress Ida Darvish's daughters, Ava, 14, and Isabella, 12, adore the franchise.

Josh said: "My oldest, Ava, looked at me recently. We were home alone, and she goes, 'Can we watch Frozen together?'

"And I actually started to tear up. I go, 'Are you serious?' She’s like, 'Yeah, I really miss it. I want to see it again.'

"It was beautiful. It was actually really beautiful … seeing her almost nostalgic for it because she’s [nearly] 15 was kind of amazing. It was a really cool experience."

Kristen joked that her and 51-year-old husband, actor Dax Shepard's daughters, Lincoln, 13, and Delta, 11, prefer police procedural dramas.

She quipped: "My kids like procedurals. Their niche is cop dramas."
