The Inbetweeners is reportedly set to be turned into a stage show.

The hit TV sitcom enjoyed huge success during its run on Channel 4 between 2008 and 2010, and it's now being turned into a musical or a play, following the success of Only Fools and Horses and Fawlty Towers productions in London's West End.

A TV source told The Sun newspaper: "The beauty of a stage show is that people won’t just be happy with all the muckiest jokes being in there — they’ll be filling the theatre expecting to see and hear them.

"That’s because like other comedies that have moved into the West End, they’re likely to lift the episodes lock, stock and barrel onto the stage.

"And fans know exactly what to expect, so there won’t be any complaints from the thousands of devotees who’ll be filing through the doors."

Earlier this month, an insider claimed that The Inbetweeners is set to return on Netflix.

The sitcom - which starred Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, James Buckley and Blake Harrison - originally aired on Channel 4, but the streaming giant is reportedly keen to revive the show, with a multi-million-pound deal being finalised for a movie.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "Inbetweeners fans will be thrilled and relieved because when talk of a reboot emerged last year, there were fears it might not turn out to be a telly project.

"But this deal will mean the comedy will be back on our television screens for the first time in 16 years, even though it won’t in its original home on Channel 4."
