Fatboy Slim recalls his Ronaldo wedding DJ gig where he was 'snogged'
Norman Cook - aka Fatboy Slim - has recalled DJing at former Brazil striker Ronaldo's 2005 wedding in Paris, France, and says it "degenerated into every other wedding" once the drinks began to flow at the reception.
Fatboy Slim was snogged "full on the face" by Brazilian soccer superstar Ronaldo when he was the DJ at his wedding.
The big beats legend - real name Norman Cook - was hired to supply the music at the retired Real Madrid player's nuptials in Paris, France, in 2005 and the ceremony was attended by a galaxy of stars, including David Beckham and his wife Victoria Beckham.
Norman remembers being nervous about his set when he got to the reception because he was unsure if his choice of tracks would make everyone happy, but he needn't have worried as soon as the drinks started to flow the evening "degenerated into every other wedding".
Speaking at the launch of his new book It Ain’t Over… ‘Til The Fatboy Sings, he recalled: "It was in Paris. It was kind of weird. I don’t do many weddings but when Ronaldo – this is Brazilian fat Ronaldo, when he was playing at Real Madrid – phones you and says, ‘Will you DJ at my wedding? The Beckhams are going to be there.’
“At the end of the day it was like any other wedding. I was thinking, ‘Oh my god, I’ve probably forgotten music that they want to hear, Everybody looks really old, no one really knows each other.’ Roll on two hours later, everybody’s drunk, everybody’s dancing on each other’s shoulders, Ronaldo’s snogging me full on the face, my mate’s trying to get a kiss off his wife, his dad’s got his tie round his head, it degenerated into every other wedding."
Norman, 62, can remember the wedding antics, but has no recollection of what tunes he span because it was during his "drinking days", although he is certain that a lot of his set would've comprised of the Big Beach Boutique II DVD which was a big hit in Brazil.
The Praise You hitmaker - who celebrated 16 years of sobriety in 2025 - said: "It was during my drinking days, I can’t actually remember what I played. I just remember the behaviour.
“I think most of the people there, Ronaldo was one of the people who watched the DVD, I knew that his reference point. I probably played half the DVD.
“I wish I had played Come On Eileen, though.”
Norman and Ronaldo, 49, were friends before his wedding DJ gig and first met when the ex-Barcelona forward went to one of his concerts in Rio de Janeiro.
He previously said: "I started hanging out with Ronaldo a few years ago, he started coming to my shows and then I DJ’d at his wedding. He was backstage at one of my gigs in Rio and he became a fan."
Cook's book It Ain’t Over... ’Til the Fatboy Sings celebrates his 40 years in showbiz and is a vivid celebration of indie, house, acid and remix culture. It is available now.
