Geri Halliwell 'stops lucrative Spice Girls TV show'
Geri Halliwell has reportedly objected to a lucrative Spice Girls project that would have seen the 'Wannabe' hitmakers earn around £1 million each.
Geri Halliwell has reportedly objected to plans to make a TV drama about the Spice Girls.
The 52-year-old pop star shot to fame alongside Victoria Beckham, Mel B, Emma Bunton, and Melanie C in the late 1990s as part of the world's best-selling girl group and rumours that they would get back together had been persistent but now an insider has claimed that Geri refused to agree to a TV series that would have seen them all played by actresses.
A source told The Sun: "It would have seen five actresses taking on the roles of Posh, Ginger, Scary, Sporty and Baby.
"The venture would have landed them all pay deals of around £1million for essentially not lifting a finger.
“But as the negotiations ramped up, the others were told Geri had objected.
"The plans have basically been thrown out.
"They wanted to have the agreement of all of the band and without Geri it’s hard to make it happen.”
It has been reported that negotiations for the series took place with Left Bank Pictures - the production company behind Netflix hit 'The Crown' - over the summer but Geri lost interest when she began considering her own programme.
Earlier this year, Mel B claimed she had been kicked out of a WhatsApp group after pushing for another tour.
Speaking on SKyMax show 'Never Mind The Buzzcocks', when asked why she had been expelled from the group, she explained: "Because I’m Northern and say what I think and feel and I’m constantly saying to the girls, ‘We need to go back on tour. Because they’re d********."
The Spice Girls were formed through an open audition in 1994 and were initially known as Touch, before going through a couple of lineup changes, choosing a different name, and breaking away from their original management.
