The Verity actress appears in the music video for her friend's new single Patient Zero alongside Colin Farrell, and while it only debuted on Sunday (27.09.26), the 36-year-old star admitted the promo - in which she plays a woman seemingly involved in an abusive relationship with the Batman actor's character, while Taylor is dressed identically to her pal as the ghost of the man's late wife - has been a “long time coming.”
Speaking to BBC Radio 1's Greg James, Dakota said: “Taylor and I are really good friends, and we talk a lot about everything, everything on the planet.
“A lot of that is true crime, and she’s a genius person, and if you talk about world-building, I think the inside of her mind is this miraculous, intricate wonderland.
“And so, she asked if I would do this, and of course, I’ll do anything with her; she’s the most fun."
Both Dakota and Greg were among the 1,000 guests at Taylor and Travis Kelce's wedding at Madison Square Garden in July, and the Fifty Shades of Grey actress couldn't have imagined the Fate of Ophelia singer planning her big day in any other way.
Hailing the wedding as "so fun", she said: “It was so like… everything she’s dreamed of. It just felt so completely her."
Asked if she thought any photos from the wedding would ever be leaked, she simply said: "No."
Following the premiere of the video at the MTV VMAs, Taylor thanked Dakota, Colin, and co-star Cara Delevingne, as well as cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, for their work on the promo.
She wrote on Instagram: "The ‘Patient Zero’ video is finally out in the world!” she wrote. “Getting to work with Emmanuel Lubezki was something out of a dream sequence, and I learned so much from getting to watch his genius in action.
"I want to thank Dakota and Colin for trusting me with their time, taste, and talent (giggling with your friend because you’re twinning for an entire shoot was a new and truly delightful experience). And Colin’s turn as a villain is even more impressive when you get to be around him. He’s an absolute light and as kind as they come. Cara, thank you for agreeing to play the lusty other woman. That’s what friends are for?
"With the ‘Patient Zero’ video, I got to explore the cinematic and literary genres I love so much. I wanted to incorporate elements of gothic ghost stories, true crime, psychological thrillers all in a setting I hadn’t really shot in much.
"The house was a metaphor for the coldness of a relationship that’s faded and atrophied.
"Thank you to Ethan Tobman for your insightful production design, and bringing that feeling to life. My editor Chancler Haynes has outdone himself. And lastly, thank you to the VMAs for giving us a World Premiere at the place where celebrating music videos became a thing. And so much love for you guys, always.”
